About The Event

Harry Pearson will tell the story of the Battle of Byland. His talk casts light on a fascinating but little-known episode of our local history. The battle was significant in the Scottish War of Independence & unusual that it was fought so deep into English territory, here in Yorkshire. It was one of only two occasions in the history of Anglo-Scottish warfare when kings from both nations, Edward II and King Robert were present in the field.

Author Harry Pearson, of Clash of Crowns, the Battle of Byland 1322, Yorkshire’s Forgotten Conflict’, lives in Boston Spa.  He was instrumental in organising the memorial monument of the battle, being erected at the site near Sutton Bank in October 2022 on the 700th anniversary of the battle.

On arrival you will be served our 3 tiered Afternoon Tea stand filled with tasty treats, including our delicious freshly made fruit scones.
